My interest in life coaching grew out of my work as a physician assistant, as well as experiences of overcoming challenges in my own life. I have learned how a clear-eyed view of obstacles and solutions along with appropriate resources and support can go a long way toward helping people achieve their goals. What is coaching?
To understand what coaching is, let’s talk about what it’s not.
Coaching is not therapy. It is not intended to treat problems such as anxiety, depression, or mental illness. While coaching can be helpful for patients with mental health challenges, those patients should also seek treatment from a mental health professional.
Coaching is not advice. It is not a coach’s job to tell you what to do. Rather, the coach will formulate questions and re-frame the things you say to help you discover the way forward.
Coaching is not just a conversation. While it can be therapeutic to have a long chat with a friend, it’s not something most people would pay for. Coaching goes beyond a superficial conversation, or even a deep one!
Coaching involves taking stock of your life and identifying areas to change. Your coach will help you set goals, identify barriers, and brainstorm ways to overcome obstacles. With your coach's support, you will decide on specific steps to take toward meeting your goals. At each session, you and your coach will discuss your progress. If you haven't accomplished everything you intended to do, it's okay! You and your coach will discuss what got in the way and make changes to your goals as needed, then develop a plan for which steps to take next.
How much does coaching cost?
According to the website Choosing Therapy, most life coaches charge between $75 and $200 per hour. Because I believe in the power of coaching, I do not want the cost to be prohibitive. I offer an initial one-hour session completely free of charge, with no obligation to schedule more sessions. If you decide to schedule additional sessions, the price for a 30 minute session is $50. I offer a discount based on household size and income. Many clients will qualify for a discount.

The first step is to schedule a free consultation here. You will receive a questionnaire to complete before our session. During the session, we will discuss your answers and start setting specific goals. By the end of the session, you will have a list of things you want to accomplish, along with a plan to make those things happen.
